The Information Governance Professional (IGP) Board



The IGP certification program is governed by the IGP Governance Board, which is incorporated separately from the ARMA International Board of Directors. The IGP Board guides the certification program, provides outreach to the profession, and clearly separates the functions and decisions related to certification from other ARMA International programs and goals.

Its charter requires the IGP Governance Board to ensure the credibiliy of the credential through establishing processes and oversight. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Ensure the validity of the exam
  • Provide fairness so all applicants and candidates are treated impartially
  • Provide qualification requirements for applicants
  • Provide maintenance requirements that ensure continuing competence of indiviudals who hold the credential
  • Ensure public trust in the methods and processes used by the IGP credentially program
  • Ensure the administrative credibility of decisions and actions taken

John Isaza, Esq., FAI

John Isaza is a California-based attorney, CEO of Information Governance Solutions featuring Virgo™, a cloud-based software for records management and global research, and law partner at Rimon, where he chairs the records management and information governance practice. Mr. Isaza is one of the world’s foremost experts in the field. He has developed information governance and records retention programs for some of the most highly regulated Global 1000 companies. He is co-author of 7 Steps for Legal Holds of ESI and Other Documents, a contributing author to the ABA’s Internet Law for the Business Lawyer, 2nd Edition, Chair of the American Bar’s Social Media Subcommittee, and a Fellow of ARMA International.

Phil Guenther, J.D., CRM

Phil Guenther is a Senior Vice President in Bank of America’s Enterprise Data Management group in Charlotte, North Carolina. He has been in the Records & Information industry for over 10 years. Phil began his career at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research in Cambridge, MA, before joining Iron Mountain’s Consulting group in 2013, and eventually joining Bank of America. Phil received his J.D. from New England School of Law in 2009, and is a Certified Records Manager (CRM). He currently serves on the board of the ARMA Charlotte-Piedmont chapter.

Cheryl McKinnon, IGP

Cheryl McKinnon is a principal analyst at Forrester, serving the needs of Enterprise Architecture Professionals. She covers the trends, challenges, and recommended practices for managing enterprise content. Her focus is delivering research and advisory services into areas including enterprise content management (ECM), content archiving, enterprise filesync and file-share, document-centric collaboration, life-cycle management, information governance, and eDiscovery.

Before joining Forrester, Cheryl ran an independent consulting firm, serving both private- and public-sector clients. Cheryl has served as vice president of marketing for industry association AIIM, was chief marketing officer of Nuxeo, and held senior management roles with OpenText and Hummingbird.

Mike Alsup, PH.D, MBA

Mike Alsup is the founder and Board Chairman of Gimmal, a successful enterprise content and records management software company. Mike was a founder and leader at BSG and Align Solutions (went public as Luminant Worldwide). He has been active in leadership roles in AIIM and ARMA for decades. Mike was an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2008. He graduated from Rice and has an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin. He is a past President of the Jones School Board of Partners at Rice University.

Jason C. Stearns, IGP, CIPP/US, CIPM, CRM

Jason is the Director of Information Governance and Americas Privacy Lead Group in the Legal & Compliance at BlackRock. He is responsible for the global implementation of Information Governance standards and requirements and privacy initiatives. Prior to BlackRock, Mr. Stearns held similar roles at UBS and New York Life Insurance Company. Mr. Stearns earned an MS in Applied Information Management from the University of Oregon and BA from Binghamton University. He is certified Information Governance Professional (ARMA), Certified Information Privacy Professional (IAPP), Certified Information Privacy Manager (IAPP) and a Certified Records Manager (ICRM). In addition to his role at BlackRock, Jason is also President-elect of the ARMA International Board of Directors.
