Today, consumers are readily sharing their DNA with companies, but getting such ancestral information might come at a hidden cost.

For a couple-hundred bucks or less, consumers can use a genetics testing vendor to learn about their ancestry, their health predispositions, and much more. But what they might not learn – until it’s too late – is how this data can be used for undisclosed purposes that could have consequences for them and their families.

At ARMA InfoCon 2019, Kathryn Rattigan will deliver a credible, crystal-clear presentation on the things you must consider before you share your genetic data with vendors. Rattigan, an attorney with Robinson+Cole, will present “Thinking Through the Privacy Implications and Consequences of Sharing Your Genetic Data with Third Parties,” a keynote slated for October 21.

She will provide authoritative insights into how the genetic testing companies might share the DNA data with researchers, public databases, insurance companies, regulators, marketers, and law enforcement. You’ll learn about your rights to access, delete, or amend your data as well. And she’ll demystify the complicated privacy policies of Veritas Genetics, Ancestry, 23andMe, and other testing companies.

Rattigan’s presentation is just one of many expert keynotes and cutting-edge sessions at ARMA InfoCon 2019. Visit the web page to learn more and to register for the information profession’s most important annual event.
