At your last “cross-functional" meeting did someone use the term, “information governance" and "data governance" interchangeably? Do you use them interchangeably? Most people think information and data are roughly the same thing, so maybe information governance and data governance are the same thing too? Well, no. They are different disciplines with different tools, different professional qualifications, different mandates, different daily activities, and different ways of working. But, they are not entirely different.

The Information Governance Initiative has addressed this topic before, but lately we have been seeing more organizations seeking to unify, combine, or address both domains as part of the same project. In some organizations, the two functions are melding into one. This evolution is not necessarily a bad thing, and in fact could be very good for many practitioners seeking stronger business alignment and visibility. But it comes with challenges and pitfalls. We will dig into the impact of this evolution in this discussion-based webinar.
