Foreword

Developing this guideline was a collaborative effort among many professionals: a dedicated task force leader, a core of task force volunteers, members of two ARMA chapters, the Standards Development Committee (SDC), and ARMA headquarters personnel.

The ultimate goal of this glossary is for it to become a living document that will change in response to the dynamic business environment. To achieve this, ARMA eventually intends to launch an electronic version that will include live hyperlinks to other sources, additional notes and citations, and wiki-type interactivity that will allow users to contribute suggestions for new or expanded terms and links to other records and information management-related organizations and resources.

In the interim, readers are invited to send comments or suggestions by e-mail to standards@arma.org or by mail to:

ARMA International

ARMA will consider all suggestions it receives for a future edition of this guideline.

This material has been developed under the published procedures of ARMA International, which are designated to ensure the appointment of technically competent committees having balanced representation. Although the procedures ensure the highest degree of care, ARMA International, its members, and those participating in its activities do not accept any liability resulting from compliance or noncompliance with the provisions given herein, for any restrictions imposed on materials or processes, or for the completeness of the text. ARMA International has no power or authority to police or enforce compliance with the contents of this document. Any certification of product stating compliance with the requirements of this document is made at the peril of the certifier.

This guideline supersedes Glossary of Records and Information Management Terms, 2nd Edition (ANSI/ARMA 10-1999).
