E-mail continues to challenge organizations. With the growth of e-mail, voice-mail, and instant messaging – as well as other electronic records – the capacity for discoverable information has increased.

This standard defines requirements for developing a corporate policy for managing information content in any type of text-based electronic message or communication such as e-mail or instant messaging. It includes recommended provisions for an electronic message records management policy useful through the cycle from message creation to final destruction or disposition.
