ARMA International Records & Information Management Survey (2009)
On February 29, 2009, the ARMA International Records and Information Management Survey was sent to ARMA International’s membership of 10,011, with 841 completing the survey for a response rate of 8.4%. Respondents were asked to analyze their organization’s total information management landscape so ARMA International could get a snapshot of current information practices as it relates to general management, policies and procedures, information management training, information technology, and legal/compliance.
Findings of note include:
- Only 25% of organizations feel very confident they could respond appropriately to a legal discovery request
- Only 27% of organizations have a formal marketing/communications program in place to communicate the value of records and information management to the organization’s employees

ARMA International Records Destruction Survey (2008)
In October of 2008, ARMA International conducted research to learn how highly regulated industries practice records destruction. The survey was sent to all ARMA International members who elected to receive email from the association, and yielded 794 completes.
Findings of note include:
- 89% of respondents categorized as working in a highly regulated industry have a destruction policy and accompanying procedures for physical records, but, only 51% have the same for electronic records
- While 81% of respondents say their organizations have a process in place for placing records on a litigation hold, just 72% have a process for taking records off litigation hold status

Information Management Training Survey (2007)
ARMA International
International Association of Human Resources Information Management
ARMA International conducted the Information Management Training Survey in April 2007. Respondents included 502 records and information management professionals and 59 human resources information management professionals. The survey was conducted in cooperation with the International Association of Human Resources Information Management (www.ihrim.org), an association of human resources and IT practitioners, vendors, consultants, students, and faculty.
