From the President - November 2010
November 30, 2010
What a great conference! On behalf of the ARMA International Board of Directors, I’d like to thank everyone who attended. You helped us increase our traffic more than 36% over last year. Attendees, facilitators, and vendors alike had rave reviews for the 2010 event – and ARMA International staff and planning committees are already hard at work planning for an even better 2011 gathering in Washington D.C.
Couldn’t make the event? Have no fear. Podcasts of the event are available free at www.arma.org/podcast, and we’re making individual sessions available for sale as pre-recorded web seminars. And, if you’re a full-paid Conference attendee, all of the sessions can be found free of charge in your MyARMA “My Education” tab at arma.org - all in the next few days.
Those who came to listen to my opening remarks during the Conference & Expo had a chance to hear what I’m excited about – the evolution of our profession. My previous posts here have given you the flavor of the conversation. Quite simply, I’m excited about the way we can help shape the evolution of our profession.
I’ll talk more about how you can help make this shift in my next posts – for now, let me leave you with one thought: understand the value you bring to your organization – not the services you provide. I want to encourage everyone to become a key part of your organization’s value statement by crafting all of your internal messages to focus on the value you bring to your organization and not on the physical assets you control. It’s not about boxes, shredding, or even e-discovery – it’s about mitigating risk, saving funds, and wisely investing in your organization’s competitive future.
Make your approach to your organization’s information governance a prime component of your organization’s value statement. Bringing that concept to life within your organization is the key to being a valuable component – and driver – of your organizations information infrastructure.
The kind of value you bring can be a key part of your organization’s competitive advantage. You can’t put a price tag on value. And you wouldn’t dream of outsourcing the value driver for your organization. Think of it as an offer they can’t refuse…
There’s more to come on this topic, of course. And many more tools. ARMA International is a family of professionals. Part of the power of ARMA International is in using the resources your family provides. There’s never been a more exciting time to be in the profession, and to be involved in ARMA International.
