FAQs

What is the status of the ISG program?
Over the past few years, ARMA International has been re-examining the best ways to meet the industry-specific needs of its members. The Industry Specific Group program was reorganized a couple of years ago with the goal of putting the emphasis on providing industry-specific education. The ISG leaders worked closely with ARMA’s Education Department to do just that.

Based on feedback from members and a report from the Industry Specific Group leadership, the ARMA Board decided that the current program structure was no longer effective and should be dissolved. Instead, ARMA International’s Education Department would plan and develop the educational offerings of specific interest to various industries as a normal part of ARMA’s education process. ARMA International’s Board approved this recommendation and will appoint a special task force to work with Headquarters to ensure the networking needs of our members are met as well.

How will this affect me?
You shouldn’t see any difference in the programs or resources available to you as a member. You still will have access to industry-specific information and resources just as in the past. New resources will be developed as needs arise through ARMA International’s education department.

Where will I get education specific to my industry within the ISG program?
You’ll find industry-specific information available as you currently find education on the ARMA International site. If you indicate on you’re My ARMA profile that you are interested in Government, for example, you’ll be notified of web seminars and materials of special interest to you. Additionally, you’ll find information and resources specific to your industry on the “Industry Specific” page link at arma.org just as you do today.

I've been a member of the ISG program for years. My group is active, and I wonder where we'll get our sense of community if our regular avenues no longer exist?
The Industry Specific area of arma.org will continue to exist, acting as a gateway to industry-specific resources. As the area of the site evolves, you’ll find a more interactive, community space for discussion of issues specific to your area.

Also, you’ll find industry-focused education and networking opportunities at the ARMA’06 Conference and Expo in San Antonio.

What was the process for making the decision to retire the formal program?
A recommendation from the program chair led to Board discussion on the topic. In April the Board approved the recommendation to dissolve the program’s current structure.

What happens next? How will this continue to develop?
The Board has appointed a task force to identify next steps.  Watch for additional information in InfoPro Online and through Member Alerts as they happen.

I have some suggestions on next steps that I would like to offer the task force.
How might I do that?
If you have suggestions about your specific educational needs, please contact the Education Department at
education@arma.org. From ARMA’s ongoing web seminar, conference, and online course offerings, to our standards program, to the competencies project, ARMA International is committed to providing members with the best education benefits in the industry.
