LINC (Linking International Communities)
Chapter/Region Participation
The LINC (Linking International Communities) Program is a fantastic way
for your chapter or region to participate in ARMA's international efforts.
By sponsoring an international member, you will help to further a colleague's
career as well as gain global perspective on RIM issues and trends.
ARMA's International Ambassadors are working to identify potential candidates
for the LINC program. As these candidates are identified and listed in the
headquarters' database, you will have the opportunity to request information
about candidates that meet any criteria you might have (e.g., a candidate
located in a certain country or working in a certain sector). Collecting the
candidate's essay and two subsequent articles from any candidate you choose
to sponsor will be your responsibility.
Process
- Contact Member Services when your chapter or region is interested in sponsoring
an international candidate. You may call 800.422.2762 or send
an e-mail using the subject line "LINC." Member Services will
provide you with a list of candidates meeting your criteria.
- You will be responsible for contacting the candidate and collecting his
or her 500-word essay on the topic of "Why an ARMA Membership Would
Be Important to Me." (It is a requirement of this program that the candidates
be proficient in English and able to supply an e-mail address for ease of
communication.)
- You will notify the candidate and HQ of your sponsorship decision within
30 days of receiving his or her essay.
- If you choose to sponsor an international member, you will need to submit
association dues for one year of membership for the candidate to ARMA headquarters
within 30 days.
- You will be responsible for soliciting from the sponsored member at least
two articles that provide an international perspective on a RIM topic of
your choice.
Participation and Promotion Ideas
- Add a special section to your newsletter and/or Web site regarding the
sponsorship.
- Develop a relationship with the new member by making him or her welcome
to your chapter - if only virtually.
- Waive your chapter dues and make sure the member receives your newsletter
and meeting notices so they will feel involved.
- Send the new member a synopsis of each meeting.
- Give the new member a sense of community that will encourage them to continue
to participate in the association.
