Records and Information Management: The Fundamentals
Friday and Saturday, November 5-6
Facilitated by Mark Langemo, Ed.D., CRM, FAI
A comprehensive two-day seminar designed to enable individuals new to RIM to learn the profession quickly and become prepared to function successfully as records managers. You will learn tried and proven practical approaches for developing and strengthening organization-wide RIM programs. In addition, you will learn to manage digital (electronic) records, develop legally-valid records retention programs, and use state-of-the-art technologies to manage their programs. This seminar is a great way to get up to speed before the conference begins.

Upon completion of this seminar, you will be able to:

  • Define RIM and explain why quality RIM programs are essential, as well as build executive and stakeholder support
  • Develop strategic plans for RIM programs, including components necessary for successful organization-wide RIM programs
  • Implement tried and proven strategies for developing, strengthening, and managing RIM programs

 

Governance and Compliance in a SharePoint World

The technologies of today have enabled users to produce, collaborate, and share information like never before, creating an explosion of information within organizations. RIM professionals must address governance and compliance concerns surrounding these new technology environments. We will review how to build a strategy for effective tool utilization and implementation by using standards such as the Generally Accepted Recordkeeping Principles®, project management methods, and considerations for tool configuration and implementation. Learn how to achieve effective information governance and compliance when collaborative tools are in use.

 

Leveraging GARP® to Achieve Organizational Excellence

The ability for an organization to govern its conduct and ethics is now made easier with the release of the Generally Accepted Recordkeeping Principles® (GARP®), but what is its value to an organization, to regulating bodies, and to society? We will examine the requirements of the GARP® principles, the use of the GARP® Maturity Model, and the role each plays in assessing GARP® compliance and developing a GARP® program. You will walk away with a practical strategy for implementing GARP® within your organization.

 

Certified Records Manager (CRM) Exam Prep Workshop
Wednesday and Thursday, November 10-11
Becoming a CRM, the most respected credential among professional records and information managers, has many advantages in today’s complex and fluid information environment. CRMs are in more demand now than ever! This workshop will help you prepare for the CRM exams by identifying what areas to study for each exam part and where to find the resources to help you learn what you need to know. You will receive top-notch instruction from members of the ICRM.

Day One – Introduction and CRM Exam Parts I-V
The first day of the workshop will cover the Introduction to the CRM Exam, including qualification overview. It will also cover an overview of Parts I-V (multiple choice questions) of the exam. One-hundred sample questions will be used.
Day Two – CRM Exam Part VI: The Case Studies
The second day will include an overview of Part VI, the case studies portion of the exam. Attendees will receive strategic tips in passing Part VI and will take an actual 40-point exam (which requires attendees to bring a laptop). Case studies will be graded (if attendees choose) and returned to them.
