Chapter Operations e-Handbook

Membership Categories

All chapters are required to have the minimum four (4) membership categories established by ARMA International:

  • Regular Member - A duly qualified individual in good standing with the association, entitled to full rights and benefits of ARMA International.
  • Honorary Member - An individual who has been granted lifetime membership by ARMA International’s Board of Directors.  This is different than a Honorary Member of the Chapter.
  • Student Member - Any enrolled full-time post-secondary student.  Student membership does not convey the privileges of voting in ARMA International elections or holding office.  Individuals may only be a Student Member for 1 year.
  • Retired Member - A current or former member in good standing with the Association, who has retired from the profession of records management.  Retired membership does not include the privilege of voting in an ARMA International election, holding office or receiving Information Management magazine.

Chapters may create additional membership categories only upon approval of ARMA International’s headquarters.  Additional categories must be included in the chapter’s bylaws.  An example of an additional category would be Chapter Honorary Member.

Redesignated Membership - This is used when a member leaves an organization and they want to have the new employee receive the membereship.  Membereship belongs to the individual which is why we do a Redesignated memberships.  Click here for more details.
