Learning Objectives

Day 1: Certification Foundation – Friday, October 24, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Areas covered include:
  • Common principles and approaches to privacy
  • Overview of privacy and data protection regulations by jurisdictions and industry sectors
  • Introduction to information security and information security management and governance, including frameworks, controls, cryptography, and identity and access management (IAM).
  • Online Privacy: Using personal information on websites and with other Internet-related technologies

Day 2: U.S. Private-Sector Privacy – Saturday, October 25, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Areas covered include:
  • The U.S. legal system: definitions, sources of law and sectorial model for privacy enforcement
  • U.S. federal laws for protection of personal data: FCRA and FACTA, HIPAA, GLBA, COPPA and DPPA
  • U.S. federal regulation of marketing practices: TSR, DNC, CAN-SPAM, TCPA and JFPA
  • U.S. state data breach notification and select state laws
  • Regulation of privacy in the U.S. workplace: FCRA, EPP, ADA and ECPA plus best practices for privacy and background screening, employee testing, workplace monitoring, employee investigation and termination of employment
Prerequisite: The Certification Foundation seminar offered Friday, October 24 or as completed previously

Facilitator Biography:

Chris Zoladz, CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPP/G, CIPM, CIPT, CISSP, CISA, CPA, is the founder of Navigate LLC, a consulting company focused on providing comprehensive strategic and tactical information protection and privacy consulting services. Prior to founding Navigate in April 2009, Zoladz was the vice president of information protection and privacy at Marriott International, Inc., a function he created in 1999. In this role he had responsibility for all global information protection and privacy activities. A past-chairman, treasurer, and founding board member of the IAPP, Zoladz was the recipient of the 2006 IAPP Vanguard Award as the chief privacy officer of the year. He was also named one of the top privacy advisors by Computerworld in 2010, the last year the list was published.
